BOSTON TERRIER

ABOUT THE BREED

The Boston Terrier is an extremely friendly family and companion dog. However, the initial intention of the breed's creators was to create them for fighting, but fortunately they did not succeed, and bostons never performed in this role. Nature played a trick on the breed's creators, and instead of an aggressor, they bred a dog with a wonderful character, completely devoid of violence, having so much charm and elegance that it was given the nickname "American Gentleman."

personality

Despite the fact that the boston is not conflictual and is friendly to people and animals, he has a very strong character, he is a courageous and feisty dog, which he can sometimes show. He can be stubborn and tries to put his best foot forward, he happens to test the patience of his master to see how much he can afford. He is very intelligent and learns quickly. This is a dog whose upbringing requires carefully balanced firmness and more encouragement than coercion. He should not be yelled at or chastised, as he will lose trust in his handler. Guided consistently, but at the same time friendly and gentle, he will not cause problems.

He has a lot of energy, is cheerful and always willing to play. For his well-being, he requires constant human contact and lots of physical activity. He is an adventurous dog, but he needs early and careful socialization to accustom him to everything he will have to encounter after leaving home.

He is smart, cooperative and everything can be taught to him. He does very well in various dog sports adapted to his size, such as agility.

COLOR, WEIGHT

The Boston Terrier comes in three types of wool: brindle, seals (It appears black, however, when viewed in the sun or bright light, it has a reddish tint) or black, all with white markings.

There are the following weight categories:
Less than 15 lbs (6.8 kg)
15 to less than 20 pounds (6.8-9 kg)
From 20 pounds to max 25 pounds (9-11.35 kg).

behaviour

He finds himself in all housing conditions. He will be very happy in a house with a garden as well as an apartment in a block of apartments. Although in the apartment the boston behaves very calmly and seemingly lacks nothing, it must not be forgotten that every day he should have the opportunity to run around and discharge his energy. He needs this not only for his well-being, but also for his health, as lack of physical activity can soon lead to overweight. He is very eager to go out for a walk especially in beautiful sunny weather.

It is important to remember that there is no breed that does not have genetic burdens. Boston has its health ailments, so you should buy a dog consciously, from a good kennel, where the parents have genetic testing (the basic test is the eyes, or JHC, and the kneecaps, or PATELLA). Such tests give owners a better chance of acquiring a healthy dog that will enjoy good health. However, it is important to remember that we are buying a living creature, not an item for which we get a guarantee for many years. And when buying a puppy from a professional breeder, we can count on help from the breeder, access to his knowledge and experience, which can prove invaluable.

Therefore, choose the kennel and breeder of your new family member wisely.
